James Cecil "Buddy" Cook

Born March 1, 1929 at Sabine, WV, he was the oldest of seven children to the late Thomas D. and Lakie L. Cook.
Buddy was a retired U.S. Army veteran, serving in both Vietnam and Korea with 22 years of service. He retired a Sergeant 1st Class in 1973 and was decorated 23 times including 3 Bronze stars.
Buddy worked for the Pocahontas County Board of Education, the U.S. Forest Service, and was a carpenter and timberer. His interest included hunting, fishing, gardening, and watching baseball.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Glen Cook and Oather Cook, and a sister Shirley Morgan.
On December 31, 1948 Buddy married his wife, Easter Marie Moore Cook who survives him. Also surviving are his children, Tessie Hooker and husband Freddie, Judy Smallwood and husband Ricky, Gladys Critchley and husband Audie, Dewey Cook and companion Mandy Fitzgerald, and a grandson raised by James and Easter Cook, Matthew Cook and wife Katherine; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
He also leaves behind two sisters, Josie Valencia of Green Bank, WV and Patsy Jenkins of Sinks Grove, WV and a brother, Lonnie Cook of Hagerstown, MD.
Funeral services with full military honors will be 1:00 pm Wednesday, July 11, 2012 at Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale, with Rev. Joe Hise officiating. Burial will follow in the Dunmore Cemetery with military rites by the Pocahontas County Honor Guard.
Friends may call from 11:00 am until time of the service at the Wallace & Wallace Funeral Home in Arbovale on Wednesday.
