Billy Ray Simms
CLIFFTOP -- Billy Ray Simms, 73, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013, at Bowers Hospice House following a long battle with lung cancer.
He was born September 11, 1939, at Thayer, to the late William H. and Madeline G. Simms. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers Jimmy Dale and Howard "Duke" Simms and sister Virginia "Bo" Pouncey.
He is survived by his wife, Rose, two sons Adam of Napa, CA, and Aaron of Smoot; stepsons, James Simms of Clifftop, Steven Simms of Rainelle, and stepdaughter Tammy Hicks of Barboursville; grandchildren Savanna, Ian and Todd Simms; stepgrandchildren Brandon, Anthony, Jacob, Heaven, Heather, Tiffany, Samantha and Patty; sisters Pat Akers of Rainelle and Barbara Willey of Corliss.
Bill was retired from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and recently from Babcock State Park as the Grist Mill operator. He was a member of the Minnie Belle Baptist Church, Corliss. 
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Wallace and Wallace Funeral Home in Rainelle with Rev. Gene Bennett and James Simms officiating. Burial will follow at Wallace Memorial Cemetery, Clintonville. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to services. 
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Bowers Hospice House. 
The family wishes to thank Dr. Joe Lutz, the Raleigh Regional Cancer Center, Hospice nurses and staff at Bowers Hospice House for their care during this long journey.
